Physical Education (PE)
Introduction:
The PE department seeks to develop physically competent and confident
individuals. Through our curriculum and meaningful learning experiences,
we aim to help students realise the importance of safe participation in
physical activities, and the joy of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
Department Goals:
Our PE education focuses on three learning areas, namely, Physical Activity,
Outdoor Education, and Physical Health and Safety. With a strong
emphasis in, about, and through movement, students are offered innumerable
opportunities to participate in physical activities and cooperate with
their peers to reinforce learning. In addition, our lessons are crafted
with purposeful assessment and pedagogy in hope to help students develop
the essential competencies to succeed in our fast-changing world.
Physical Education Curriculum Framework
Curriculum and Programmes:
Students in Primary School will learn five content areas, mainly, Athletics,
Dance, Games and Sports, Gymnastics, and Swimming. Through these content
areas, students are taught fundamental movement skills, movement concepts,
along with the transference of these skills and concepts across the various
content areas.
P1 Mass Walk
The Mass Walk is held at Punggol Waterway Park adjacent to Waterway Primary
School. The walks are held weekly during one teaching term, and it aims
to build student’s confidence, help them identify potential outdoor hazards,
and develop appreciation for flora and fauna.
Swimsafer
The Swimsafer Programme is part of the PE curriculum where students will
learn about water safety, personal water survival and swimming strokes.
P3 Sports MCCA
P3 Sports MCCA (Tchoukball) provides students with exposure to team sports
and the opportunity to develop interpersonal skills, school values of Responsibility,
Integrity, Self-discipline and Empathy through collaborative team play.
P3 & P4 Sports Carnival
Our sports carnival presents P3 and P4 students the opportunity to challenge
their friends at various game stations. These stations put the different
skills that they have learnt and mastered during PE lessons (such as fundamental
movement and manipulative motor skills) to a good test!
P5 Camp
P5 Camp is part of MOE’s National Outdoor Adventure Education Master Plan.
The 3 Days 2 Nights camp is put in place to strengthen the holistic development
of all our students. The programme seeks to develop ruggedness, resilience,
and build cohesion amongst our students.
P5 Outdoor & Life Skills MCCA
Outdoor and Life Skills Modular CCA for Primary 5 students provides them
with an enriching experience in problem solving and managing relationships.
Students engage in authentic learning experiences using collaborative skills,
creativity and reflective thinking.
P6 Games Day
Lastly, we engage our P6 students in an exciting territorial-invasion
team sport post-PSLE. This event encapsulates the curriculum objectives
through involvement in physical activities with their peers in the cohort.
It also deepens teamwork and friendships forged over the years.
